Running Start

Running Start is a unique partnership between the State of Hawaii Department of Education and the University of Hawaii. The program allows high school juniors and seniors to attend college and earn both high school and college credits.

For more information, including the program strengths and what to expect as a college student, see "Running Start" under the Related Links section.

Eligibility

If you are a junior or senior attending a public high school and under the age of 21 as of September 1 of the school year in which college courses will be taken, you are eligible.

If you just finished your sophomore year, you are eligible this summer since you will be starting your junior year. Contact your high school Running Start counselor for guidance.

Home-schooled and private school students may not participate in Running Start. Those wanting college credits may consider the Early Admission Program. See the Related Links section.

Application deadline

Each high school has its own deadline, so check with your high school Running Start counselor.
