National certification will allow Licensing by the State of Hawaii as Medical Laboratory Technicians.
The MLT Program
The MLT program is a two-year curriculum. The first-semester course-work must be completed prior to entering the program in the spring semester. The course of study is a combination of instruction in fundamental principles of selected laboratory techniques as well as clinical experience in affiliated medical laboratories. Students learn to understand theory and to perform clinical laboratory procedures in phlebotomy, microbiology, blood banking, clinical chemistry, hematology, immunology, and urinalysis. They also learn to operate and maintain basic clinical laboratory equipment.

Testimonials
“Tell all your MLT students that this degree is useful in many areas, not just in clinical labs. Many people I've talked to are excited to have someone with an MLT background working for them. Also, we really learn a lot in this program. I only realize fully how much we know as a result of the MLT program after I passed the NCA and ASCP exams.”
– Christopher Lai Hipp, Class of 2001
“I worked as an MLT in Microbiology (with some Urinalysis and Hematology) in a small lab, while continuing to go to college. An MLT job was a great job while in college. I made much more than the average student. I got my BS in Microbiology and pased the ASCP exam for Medical Technology.”
– Lisa Wong Farslow, Class of 1988
“I've learned a lot about myself during this program. I hope I will become a great tech, because I had such great training from this program”
– Jacqueline Danielson, Class of 2006
“I've come a long way... The knowledge and skills I learned in the MLT program helped lay the foundation of what has become an awesome career.”
