Steps to Apply for a Federal Stafford Loan

If you are interested in borrowing a Federal Stafford Loan, you will need to complete these four steps:

1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit all required forms.

2. Stafford Entrance counseling: Please go to the following link to complete an on-line Entrance Counseling session: Stafford On-line Entrance Counseling.

If you are unable to complete the on-line Entrance Counseling please e-mail us at kapfao@hawaii.edu. If you prefer to conduct the Entrance Counseling requirement in-person please call 734-9555 to make an appointment with a Financial Aid Specialist.

3. Complete a Stafford Loan Request Form:

4. Master Promissory Note (MPN):

If this is the first time you’re borrowing a Federal Stafford Loan with this lender you must complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) with your lender. You may do this online at your lenders website or a paper MPN can also be obtained from the Financial Aid Office. Otherwise, upon our certification of your loan, your lender will mail one to you for completion.
