Yes, if you enjoy working with and caring for people; able to accept, give and use constructive feedback; have good manual dexterity and coordination; able to speak and write well; able to work independently and within a team; and have a strong background in math, science and English.

How can I obtain advising information about the LPN-RN Transition Program?
Attend a Nursing Information Session. For a current schedule, click on Nursing Information Session.
When can I apply to enter the program?
You can enter in the fall and spring. The fall semester application period is December 1 to February 1; while the spring semester application period is June 1 to September 1.
What degrees and certificates do you offer?
The associate in science (AS) degree.
Is certification available?
The LPN-RN Transition Program prepares graduates for the National Council of Licensure Examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN).
Do I need to complete the prerequisite courses within a specific timeframe?
All prerequisite courses must be completed by the application period deadline: February 1 (for fall entrance) and September 1 (for spring entrance). Science courses except for chemistry must be completed within the last 5 years prior to the first day of the application period. There is no time limit for all other courses.
Do I need to maintain a certain grade and grade point ratio for the prerequisite and co-requisite (support) courses?
All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher. A 2.5 cumulative grade point ratio (GPR) is required for pre-requisite and co-requisite courses.
How do I verify my one year of full-time work experience as a licensed practical nurse?
Please contact your employer’s human resource department and request that a letter be sent to the Nursing Department at Kapi‘olani Community College in order to verify your full-time LPN employment of one year (or equivalent). The letter should confirm your dates of employment, your work status (full-time or part-time) and include a job description of your LPN duties.
Do I need to have a Hawai‘i state practical nursing license in order to be considered for the LPN-RN Transition Program?
Yes, a Hawai‘i state practical nursing license is required in order to be considered for the LPN-RN Transition Program.
Does my one year of full-time LPN work experience have to be completed within the state of Hawai‘i?
No, the one year of full-time LPN work experience may be completed within another state within the past three years. The LPN work experience must be completed within a skilled nursing facility or acute care setting.
Are there any special entry requirements?
Yes, the LPN-RN Transition Program is a selective admission program. For more information, click on ADN Admission Procedure.
Is the LPN-RN Transition Program accredited?
The LPN-RN Transition Program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Council (NLNAC) and approved by the Hawai‘i State Board of Nursing. Graduates of the program are eligible to apply for admission into the upper division of the Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
