Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible to receive VA benefits?
For information regarding VA Eligibility and entitlement, please visit the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs web site at www.gibil.va.gov or contact the VA Western Regional Office in Muskogee, OK at 1.888.442.4551.
How do I apply for VA benefits?
To expedite the processing of your application, please complete the appropriate forms based on your status and the benefits you are eligible for. See page 2.
When do I start the certification process?
Complete and submit the appropriate forms as described on page 2. Begin the certification process as soon as you register and pay for your classes at KISC - `Ilima 102, providing that the date is no earlier than 120days prior to the first day of instructions.
What if I changed majors or home institutions?
Complete the appropriate KCC change of major or change of home institution form(s) AND complete the appropriate VA form (22-5495 for Chapter 35 and 22-1995 for all other Chapters). These forms are available on-line at www.gibil.va.gov and at KISC ‘Ilima 102.
What if I am taking classes at more than one institution or at multiple UH Campuses?
Inform KCC-VA and we will contact the secondary campus(es) to certify you for your non-KCC classes.
What if my class does not run the entire length of the semester?
You are certified as enrolled in classes for the exact attendance dates of your course(s). For example, in the fall semester, if your class ends in October, your certification will reflect the course dates (not the semester dates), and VA payments may be reduced.
What if I am KCC student preparing to transfer to a 4-year campus and am following the transfer curriculum to obtain my bachelor’s degree?
KCC can only certify courses that lead towards an approved KapCC degree or certificate. KCC cannot certify courses that lead toward degree programs at any other college or campus. You must follow the degree requirements for your KapCC major.
